Ajay R. Singh, Advocate

Greeting,

While reading a article in news papers I came across a statistics about 327 judge posts in 25 High courts lying vacant which is about 29% of the total post.

A major challenge to the judicial system is the insufficient infrastructure and resources, leading to overcrowded courts and delay in justice. Indeed, statistics show that India’s subordinate judiciary struggles with pendency due to an acute shortage of judges, courtrooms, secretarial and support staff, and residential accommodation for judges.

Accessibility of court and justice is not an easy affair, it is beyond the reach of poor and marginal citizen. The middle class citizen are always awry about reaching to the judicial system knowing if once they get into the it will be impossible to come out.

The right to a fair trial, equal access to justice, and a sense of trust among citizens on the entire justice system are important components of the social obligation on the state. Further, greater accessibility by civil society can increase accountability.

Niti Aayog has under taken various programs and is a driving force for improvement in justice delivery system. Formation of National Judicial Data Grid, digitalisation and computerisation is one of the major task achieved, which gives immense easy to citizen to know the status of their cases, download orders etc.

It thus becomes essential to acknowledge the complex nature of judicial system at lower level and take a comprehensive approach that addresses the problem. The concept of Simple and fast delivery system is need of the hour. By acknowledging and investing in proper strategies, we can provide greater accessibility to the civil society which can increase accountability. It’s crucial to recognize the role of judiciary in preserving the rule of law. The Legal fraternity have to be a part of the process by taking up social responsibility by devoting their time addressing the problems at lower judiciary.

I thank all authors for their contribution also request our esteem readers to provide feedback and suggestions if any.
