State Level Himalayan - Urgam Valley Trekking Expedition : 2007

Delhi State Branch of Youth Hostel Association of India with its long experience and expertise in organizing Himalayan Trekking Expeditions has organized a new breathtaking trekking expedition to beautiful Urgam Valley in Uttarakhand. Urgam, a picturesque and beautiful valley, is situated in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. The trek provides an unique opportunity to trekkers to have a glimpse of lush green valley, dense forest, majestic peaks like Nandaghunti, water falls, lake, apple orchards, hilly villages. It also provides an opportunity to see rich flora and fauna of Himalayas. The trek also passes through two of the ‘Panch Kedars’ namely Kalpeshwar and Rudranath. A visit to these holy shrines of Lord Shiva in the month of Shravana and a dip in holy Kalp Ganga and Vaitarnni is a dream of every devotee. The trek combines pilgrimage and pleasure. No trekker would like to miss this unique opportunity.

Reporting Camp :

The Reporting Camp is situated in the Holy town of Hardwar (Sri Dev Pura Aashram, Dev Pura, about 500 mtr. away from Railway Station/ Bus Stand Ph. 01334-225271) which is well connected by rail with other parts of the country. Regular bus services ply from early morning to late night between Delhi (ISBT, Kashmere Gate) to Hardwar. A dip in holy Ganga will energize you for trekking and it will also sooth your limbs once you come back.

Reporting Date :

You may choose any date from 29th July to 12th August, 2007 to report at Reporting Camp, Haridwar but book your seat well in advance as there will be only 30 trekkers in each batch.

Age of Participants :

Participation in this programme is open to all youth Hostellers above 15 years of age. This condition will be adhered to strictly.

Participation Fees :

Rs. 2600/- per head. The fee will cover your stay in simple accommodation at all camps, nutritious vegetarian food, Transportation from reporting camp, Hardwar to Helang and from Mandal to Haridwar, guidance, equipment and insurance. The participants will, however, have to bear to and fro travel expenses from their hometown to Reporting Camp, Hardiwar. The Fee is payable by cash or Demand Draft in favour of “Youth Hostels Association of India, Delhi State Branch”.

Fitness :

Though there is no maximum age limit but the participant should be physically & mentally fit to face the rigours of trekking, which involves hiking upto a height of 13000" above sea level.

How to Apply :

Members desiring of joining the programme may apply on prescribed Registration Form duly supported by a Medical Certificate of Fitness. The form is available free of cost from Units/State Branches. It can also be downloaded from website http://www.yhaidelhi.org.

Cancellation :

In case you are unable to join the programme after paying the participation fee you will get refund of Rs. 1,300/- only, provided your request is received directly in the State Office of Delhi State Branch, YHAI at least 7 days in advance from the date of your Reporting. No refund will, however be admissible if such notice of request falls short of 7 days.

Certificates :

Participants who will successfully complete the trek and abide by the discipline of the programme, will be awarded Certificates.

Special Casual Leave :

Urgam Valley State Level Trekking Expedition has been approved by Youth Hostels Association of India. Participants working in Central Government Organizations can apply to the authorities concerned for availaing special Casual Leave for the duration of the expedition. The leave can be sanctioned by their office upto 30 days in a calendar year as per CCS (Leave) Rules.

Programme and Route Schedule :

Day 1 : Reporting at Haridwar (nearest railhead)
Day 2 : Transfer to Helang (4000") by bus - 9 Hours, 265 Kms.
Day 3 : Trek to Salna (4700ft.) 3 Hours - 5 Kms..
Day 4 : Trek to Devgram - Kalpeshwar-Devgram 5 Hours - 9 Kms
Day 5 : Trek to Dumak (8500") 8 Hours - 13 Kms.
Day 6 : Trek to Panar (11000") via Tolital 7 Hours - 14 Kms.
Day 7 : Trek to Rudranath (10000") after crossing 13000" - 6 HOurs - 10 Kms.
Day 8 : Trek to Mandal (5000") 6 Hours - 14 Kms
Day 9 : Transfer back to Haridwar by bus - 8 Hours - 250 Kms & Validictory function
Day 10 : Camp breaks after breakfast.
